DDI Comes to I-285 and Ashford Dunwoody Road

May 19, 2012 by Thom Abbott

Yes….and your first question SHOULD be, “What the h-ll is a DDI? Well, you will soon find out as they construct a DDI at I-285 and Ashford-Dunwoody Road…a.k.a. The Perimeter.

A DDI is called a Diverging Diamond Interchange. The design shifts traffic flow to the opposite side of the road to help the flow of traffic. And if you’ve EVER been in the Perimeter Mall area, you know it could use all the help it can get!

A DDI is a cutting-edge, low cost design to help improve traffic. And we all know how much traffic in the ATL needs improving!

Let’s see how it works….

U.S. housing market shows improved foot traffic and sales data as spring season enters stretch run. The challenge now is finding enough inventory, Realtors say.

A lack of inventory is also a problem in certain Atlanta neighborhoods, says Thom Abbott, an associate broker at Thomas Ramon Realty at Palmer House Properties. His firm specializes in Midtown condos at prices ranging from $80,000 to more than $600,000.

Tech Alum’s Real Estate Investing Bucks the Trends | Georgia Tech Young Alumni

May 17, 2012 by Thom Abbott

GATech TowerSee on Scoop.it – Georgia Tech News Events

By now, you’ve probably heard it many times—this isn’t an economy in which you can be successful in real estate. You will not make money selling properties, and you’re likely to go broke.

Yet despite all of these warnings that have become so common for potential real estate investors, one young Georgia Tech alumnus set out after college to make her own path in real estate and prove that with the right drive and attitude, anything is possible.

Dorsie Boddiford, Building Construction ’11, watched many of her fellow graduates head into nine-to-five jobs, but she knew that world wasn’t for her. She decided to take a different route, test her luck and make it on her own as a real estate investor. Over the past 10 months, Boddiford has purchased different foreclosed properties and renovated them to sell at a much higher value. She also partners with financial investors who provide the capital for the purchase and renovation process, while she purchases, renovates and manages the project.

To sprawl or not to sprawl? A Story about the Transportation Tax Vote

May 17, 2012 by Thom Abbott

Atlanta Transportation Tax VoteSee on Scoop.it – Other Atlanta News Events

In this article by Thomas Wheatley from Creative Loafing, he brings up some very, very interesting points. This transportation tax will be voted on in July, and when you look at the overall measure and how much money is still being pumped into road construction…..”For five years I’ve been practically begging to pay an extra tax to build sorely needed transit in metro Atlanta. Now that it’s a possibility, I wonder if the measure we’re being asked to consider this summer is really such a good idea.”

Reynolds Plantation purchase part of longterm plan for MetLife and Daniel Realty

May 13, 2012 by Thom Abbott

See on Scoop.it – Other Atlanta News Events

Reynolds Plantation is many things – high-end homes, top-flight golf, a secluded resort. But there’s one thing Robert Merck says it is not: a quick flip. Midtown Atlanta real estate company Daniel Realty will be involved in the project!

Merck, senior managing director and head of real estate investments for MetLife, which is under contract to buy the Lake Oconee community, said in an interview Friday with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that New York-based MetLife sees its acquisition of the community 80 miles east of Atlanta as a long-term investment.

“I don’t think there are many assets in the country that are comparable to Reynolds,” said Merck, whose company entered the Reynolds Plantation sweepstakes only about two months ago.

MetLife announced on Wednesday it had an agreement to acquire the struggling Reynolds Plantation, six golf courses, four marinas, nearly 5,000 acres of undeveloped land and the Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Lake Oconee.

Birmingham-based Daniel Corp. will oversee Reynolds Plantation. Daniel and MetLife, which have a 25-year relationship, are partners on 12th & Midtown, a complex of office, retail, condos and a hotel near Peachtree and 12th streets.
