Home. It’s What You Make It and WHERE You Make it. The word “home” is defined in many ways:
a house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household. |
2. | the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered. |
3. | an institution for the homeless, sick, etc.: a nursing home. |
4. | the dwelling place or retreat of an animal. |
5. | the place or region where something is native or most common. |
We all know about homes in real estate. We often have to tell our Sellers, “You are not selling your home. This is now a house you are selling and you are taking your memories with you.”
But we humans are not the only ones that make homes. I’ve had the wonderful pleasure of watching nature do it’s thing when it comes to homes!
This past summer, I had the pleasure of a home next to mine. I had to reduce the picture to fit here, but if you look closely, you will see a red arrow in the middle of the tree. Here, is another home. But this one belongs to a family of birds. I’ve scoured the Internet to try and figure out what kind of bird it is, but it’s been a busy one. And I’ve been able to watch the entire process, from eggs to birds. It’s right outside my bedroom window, so I can just stand and watch the Momma Bird fly back and forth feeding her babies.
When I knew the time was fast approaching that the “kids” to be leaving home, one of them was up on the edge of the nest, saying “let’s blow this pop stand!”
Sadly, this little guy seems to have been left behind. I noticed Momma Bird not flying into the nest anymore (yes I know I should of not got close..but she was not flying in there before I checked it out) So I’m not sure he’s going to make it out of his home!
During the Memorial Day weekend around the same time , we were greeted with yet another surprize….
The stripped object is actually my patio umbrella where it had been stood up against the house for the winter, under the eaves of the back patio. Well, it appears a little Chickadee has been busy, and now I’ve got another family in their home! I’ve not heard any noise from this one yet, so perhaps they have not yet hatched! Guess there will be no umbrella on the table for awhile!
Seeing all the work that these birds went into to make a home for their family. Now, I don’t know if there is such a thing as Bird REALTORS, but I think in both cases they picked some pretty good real estate for their homes!
I’m happy they chose my home (or my trees) for their home! It kind of reminds me of the feeling when I find the right home for my Buyers! It takes work, and time, but the rewards are worth it!
